Timepiece #111

Timepiece

Timepiece is an exploration in objective and subjective time. Each Timepiece is a dynamic figure with different graphic and kinetic characteristics that give it a unique personality — from calm and subtle to fast and playful. The piece is a clock that runs in real-time, and the form is generated by the positions of the clock hands, which appear when clicked and reveal the underlying mechanics of the piece. The thumbnail of each piece reflects the time that it was purchased (in UTC).

Timepiece is an on-chain generative art project that was released on Art Blocks on August 7, 2021. The following charities each received a portion of the proceeds — Every Shelter, Rainforest Foundation US, Clean Air Task Force, and Climate Vault.

attributes:

Each of the 500 mints is unique and generated at the time that it is purchased (neither the artist nor buyer knows what the piece will look like until the purchase is complete). It is assigned attributes based on the pseudo-random hexadecimal string that is generated by the transaction. The following is a breakdown of the key attributes that make each piece unique:

EDGE:

Crisp

Glow

Blur

Gradient Stroke

White Stroke

If Edge is White Stroke — then Background is Gradient

Color Stroke

If Edge is Color Stroke — then Background is Gradient

BACKGROUND:

Solid

White

Black

Light Gradient

Gradient

Only occurs if Edge is White Stroke or Color Stroke

VOID:

False

True

If Void is True — Blotch Mode is None

BLOB SIZE:

The threshold of the metaball function influences the size of the blob

Larger

Smaller

If Blob Size is Smaller, figure is more articulated and splitting of the blob is more likely to occur

MOVEMENT:

Normal

Spirograph

Figure oscillates around clock hands based on spirograph function. If Movement is Spirograph, the blob is more likely to split.

BLOTCH MODE:

None

If Movement is Spirograph and Blob Size is Smaller — Blotch Mode is None

Pulsing

Fixed

If Blotch Mode is Fixed — Blotch Color is Fluid

BLOTCH COLOR:

None

If Blotch Mode is None — Blotch Color is None

Match Center

Blotches match the center color and disappear if they move towards the center

Match Hands

Blotches match the corresponding hand color and disappear if they move towards the hand

Other attributes include:

  • Pulsing frequencies of each of the clock hands as well as the center of the clock

  • Minimum and maximum position of each of the clock hands
